Join us for the Council’s Annual Meeting and year-end luncheon at Dairy Farmers of America. We’re pleased to welcome Mayor/CEO Christal Watson of the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas, for remarks on her priorities for the community, including economic development, workforce opportunity, infrastructure investment and building a stronger future for Kansas City, Kansas.
The luncheon will also feature an update from the American Royal and the Council’s Annual Business Meeting as we reflect on 2026 and look ahead to the coming year.
About Mayor Christal Watson
Christal Watson serves as the elected Mayor/CEO of the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas. A Kansas City, Kansas native, Mayor Watson brings a background in community service, economic development and civic leadership to the role. Her priorities include lowering taxes, increasing budget transparency, supporting small businesses, enhancing public safety and expanding affordable housing opportunities. mayor-christal-watson bio
Prior to becoming Mayor, Watson served as Executive Director of the Kansas City, Kansas School Foundation for Excellence, Deputy Chief of Staff to former Mayor David Alvey and CEO of the Heartland Black Chamber of Commerce. She also served on the Kansas Human Rights Commission, including as Chair.
As Mayor, she is focused on revitalizing neighborhoods throughout Wyandotte County and ensuring that economic development and infrastructure investments create broad benefits for residents. Her priorities include workforce development, job creation, improved streets and services, and expanding economic opportunity throughout the city and county.
